Twist and Sprout

We can learn a lot from the 15th blessing of the Amidah, maybe even how to daven. "Matzmiach keren yeshua" - He (G-d) causes the pride of salvation to sprout. "Sprout." It's an interesting choice of words. Sprouting is a process, it doesn't just happen.

The Slonimer Rebbe, shlit'a, explains why tefilla (prayer) is called avodah (work). Avodah, as in avodat hasadeh, the work of the field. First we plow, then we sow, then we water, and only then do the seeds sprout. In our fixed daily prayers 3 times a day, and our spontaneous little ones throughout the day, this is our avodah. First we must plow deep to open up our hearts - in case they were closed. Only then can we begin to put the holy words of prayer inside - sowing. Then we pour out our hearts like water before Hashem - watering. Then 'He causes the pride of salvation to sprout.'

Sprout is an interesting word. Sprouting is a process, it doesn't just happen. I wish us haztlacha rabba in all our plantings. My we be totally shocked by the amazing sprouting yeshuot (salvations). ADAR SAMEACH!
