Let Go

– it says in Tehillim “Lift up your heads, O Gates and the Honored King will come.” The gates are us, we are the gateway of Hashem into the world. We are not the source per se, but rather the channel. The way we do our job of being the gateways for Hashem into the world is by getting out of the way, of Hashem and of ourselves. We can very likely be our own greatest hindrances, shackling ourselves with lifeless expectations, desires, needs for attention, etc. Let go, don’t decide anything just yet. Don’t define anything just yet. Any decisions we make about the one secret of true being and service of Hashem is probably wrong – with the exception of one thing – newness. And even that is not complete. But our avodah is to be able to be new, to be able to see Hashem in any situation, to be able to respond to any kind of stimulus with dignity and giving honor to Hashem. We need to be able to pray in any number of ways according to what Hashem wants of us at that moment. We must let go of any solid idea of what prayer is. We must be able to leave self-centeredness and learn to respond to the Other – and this means we must be able to listen, think, and respond, we need to have sound physical health to do whatever Hashem calls us to do. These are all out-oriented tasks, training us to live in the field, the field of all interaction. We are in a tent like Ya’akov, but we are learning there to be in the field of all interaction. There is even to learn guile that Ya’akov used to receive the blessing. As we become less self-defined and more other-defined, we can even take on the robes of our opposites if it is what Hashem wills us to do. Let go of what you think your role is in the realization of Hashem’s will in the world and allow the possibility of being His dearest tool, his very hand in the world. (and this is why we achieve 1/60th of prophecy in sleep (the tikkun of this month) and not in waking – because we have shut off the limiting mind.)
