Scream Real Loud!

"I created the yetzer hara (evil inclination) , and I created the Torah as its 'antidote'."

"For a mitzva is a vessel and the Torah is light."

Torah is the antidote from doing wrong because, to those who learn it properly, it gives light, a G-dly light. When G-d is manifest before us, His will, His love, His Oneness, who has earthly desires? The main goal of the evil inclination then is to darken our eyes from seeing such beautiful G-dliness. By learning Torah, we are not fighting darkness. Instead, we are lighting a candle. "A little light pushes away a lot of darkness."

The Slonimer Rebbe explains that since the Torah is such a powerful weapon against the yetzer hara, the main goal of the yetzer hara is to lessen our Torah learning; whether to cause us to waste time, or even if a person learns for real, then to give him strange thoughts to make him close-minded and cold hearted.

When He gave us the Torah, G-d taught us a way to fight this urge to waste time when learning, or to not open our souls to let Torah inside. Before he gave us Torah, there was great thunder and lightning and fire on the mountain. From this the Arizal learned to shout and roar whenever he had a kashe (difficulty). He explained that a kashe is the force of the clipa (covering) hiding the light of the Holy One. Therefore one needs to break this clipa with a Kol Ra'ash Gadol (great mighty sound). This is what was happening at Mount Sinai at the giving of the Torah. G-d was breaking our clipot and opening our hearts.

So too, explains the Slonimer, everyone sometimes needs thunder and lightning in one's learning, so one may merit to see with clarity the light of Torah. Please scream loud enough so we in galut sh'b''galut can feel it. "May G-d shine his new light on Zion, and may we ALL merit SOON enjoy it's brightness."

Good Shabbos, Good Yontif, l'hitra'ot!
