"Father, what are we going to do? We have no oil for the Shabbos lights," the daughter asked.
"Put vinegar in the lamps, my child."
She looked at him, perplexed.
Seeing her confusion, he continued, "The oil lights only because the word of G-d commands it. Is it not just as easy for the word of G-d to command the vinegar to light?"
"This is the end of the matter when all has been heard. Be in awe of G-d and keep his commandments, for this is the totality of the human. For G-d will bring into judgment (mishpat) everything that is done, on every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil" (Qohelet, 12:13-14).
