Gathering the Last/Lost Sparks

Every bit of life is crying to You

Silently screaming

With no other desire but to reconnect

And be absorbed within You.

We are all Yearnings for You,

Each a little fallen spark

Unknown by its surroundings,

The very life-force of its own prison,

A prisoner to those it sustains.

Ignored and shamed

Forgotten and abandoned

But still yearning on its own

Though its body has no idea

Can’t begin to touch this passion.

How can I call out and make myself known

In this foreign city?

Why am I stuck here?

Why can't I just leave and go back home,

To the place where I belong?

What is the point of this mission You sent me on

If I’m unable to help?

They won't listen to me

They don’t know of me

I’m helpless, pointless, down here.

I bang on the door

They can’t hear me.

Yelling at the top of my lungs,

They only shut me in further,

And drown out my voice

Multiplying their games

And continuing the worthless labor.

But then Darkness…

Underneath the door this small light can be seen

We’re discovered!

All the little silver and gold vessels

These scattered pieces of light

Now suddenly appear

Sparkling out of this darkness.

“And Hashem said to Moshe

Come to Pharaoh”

Because from deep down here I speak to you

Come and free me.

This is the reason for all the darkness –

So I can make myself known.

This is the reason for all the pain –

So you can stop and listen,

So that this small sweet voice can be heard.

Because only at the darkest part of the night

Are the furthest stars revealed.

“And Moshe said, so says Hashem 'At midnight I will come out in the midst of Egypt'."

Shemot Raba 14:3:

“The same darkness which darkened Egypt illuminated Israel.

On this it says, (psalms 27) “Hashem is my light and my salvation…”

So too before the final redemption –

The Holy One Blessed Be He will send darkness,

As it says, (Isaiah 60) “For behold darkness will cover the earth…

…and a terrible storm for the Nations, so that Hashems light will shine out from upon you, and His Glory will be seen on you, nations will walk by your light… “
