Music from the Yeshiva

The Bat Ayin Band

The Bat Ayin Band was the outgrowth of the musical collaboration of a number of students from the early days of the yeshiva, most prominently, Gavriel Goldfeder, now Rav of the Eish Kodesh Community in Boulder, Colorado, and Raz Hartman, who teaches for the Simchat Shlomo Yeshiva in Yerushalayim. Amongst the other musicians who appear on the albums is Rav Daniel Kohn, an accomplished klezmer musician.

'Eden Mi Qedem

'Eden Mi Qedem, the brainchild of yeshiva alumnus Shmuel Nelson, presents a modern fusion of Arabic, Sephardic and Rock influences, using traditional middle eastern acoustic as well as modern electric instruments. The music is relgiously minded, with most of the texts taken from familiar prayers and sacred texts. Listen to selected cuts from the recently released album.

Tetragrammatron

Tetragrammatron was a band put together at Oberlin College by former Bat Ayin student Barya Schacter and some top-notch musical friends. Their unusual album, Fear the Name, is a surprising synthesis of Jewish music, intertwining the music of Rav Shlomo Carlebach with heavy metal. With Daniel Gale, an exceptional fiddler (and subsequent Bat Ayin student) on violin and Daniel Greenbaum on guitar, they created a most unusual idiom, a blend of the raw power of metal with the profound depths of Jewish texts and melodic lines familiar from Jewish tradition.
