The Beit Midrash program gives both beginning and advanced students an opportunity to develop their skills in Jewish learning, gain exposure to the broad range of Jewish texts, and develop their spiritual sensitivity and awareness of God. Aspects of the program are designed on a two year cycle, but a student can begin at any time. Students are encouraged to come for at least a full year (fall to spring), but can participate for a shorter time under special circumstances.
The program includes:
- Hebrew
- The Written Torah and its Commentaries (Torah S'b'ktav)
- Primary Concepts in Torah (1 year Rambam, 1 year Mishna)
- The Landscape of Jewish Law
- In depth Talmud Learning (Gemara B'Iyun)
- Talmud Learning for Breadth (Gemara Bekiut)
- Prophets and Writings (Tanach)
- Practical Courses in Spiritual Work and Prayer (Avodat Hanefesh)
- Inner Teachings of the Torah (Pnimiyut), including Midrash, Chassidut, Rav Kook, and similar studies
The classes are taught at levels from beginning to advanced, and each student is placed according to his experience and abilities in learning. Most classes include chevruta (paired learning), lecture, and discussion components.
